The New Amazon Kindle Fire

Today Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos unveiled the new Amazon Kindle Fire Tablet.  The price for entry is $199.  The Kindle comes with a 7 inch screen.  The Kindle will be able to access Amazon’s app store, stream movies, music, and TV shows.  All of your files and  data will be saved with Amazon’s Cloud Technology as well as 8gb of storage capacity that are on board.  There are some drawbacks though.  The Kindle does not have a camera, nor a microphone and does not offer a cellular connection.  It only offers a Wi-Fi connection.  Without these it cannot be in a competitive position against the IPAD.  The objective should be to make a product that is the trend setter in the genre, so the consumer would not need to upgrade to a competitor.   Some of the specs for the Kindle are as follows:

  • The Kindle features a Gorilla Glass-protected multi-touch-capable IPS display.
  • A TI OMAP4 dual-core processor.
  • It weighs (413g) (14.6oz)
  • The screen resolution is 1024 x 600.
  • There is no browser  which makes for “Lightening” speed internet maneuvers.  The Kindle is running on Amazon’s EC2 cloud computing engine.
  • A great portion of the media a user saves will be backed up to the cloud.
  • The Kindle fire is  Flash compatible.
  • The Kindle comes loaded with 215 newspapers in its library which makes for an easy read.
  • There is unlimited streaming of music, movies and television shows from the vast Amazon Library.

The Amazon Kindle will ship November 15th, 2011.  The most important component of the Kindle is the unlimited data storage capacity of Amazon’s EC2 Cloud Computing Engine.  That completely unheard of for any Tablet!  The Amazon Kindle is strategically coming out quickly before Apple creates a media black out for all new tablets and smartphones.  This is a good idea because holiday marketing and advertising MUST start now.  With low price point of $199.,  it makes for a good gift.  But lets wait for the Apple presentation of their new technology, before we jump to any premature conclusions about any comparisons.
