The new film “The Adventures of Tintin” will be released in Theaters December 23rd, 2011.  The film is directed by Steven Spielberg and Produced by Sir Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings) and Kathleen Kennedy.  The movie is based on a comic book series by Beglian Artist Herge’ (Georges Remi).  The story is based on 3 of those comic book stories which are:

  • “The Crab with the Golden Claws”
  • “The Secret of the Unicorn”
  • “Red Rackham’s Treasure”

Steven Spielberg pursued and got the rights to the screenplay of Tintin after Herge’s  death in 1983.  The starring roll goes to Jamie Bell as Tintin and Andy Serkis as Captain Haddock.  The film is scored by famed composer John Williams.  Sir Peter Jackson is rumored to be the Director of the sequel of the film.  Spielberg and Jackson will come together to work on the 3rd installment of the film.  This is all will depend on whether or not the first movie is successful at the box office.

On the technology side: Sir Peter Jackson’s company WETA Digital will be providing the computer animation and digital effects.   WETA Digital is a digital visual effects company based in Wellington, New Zealand.  WETA Digital has won 5 Academy Awards for computer animation and digital effects for the following films:

  • “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring”  (2001)
  • “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” (2002)
  • “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the Ring” (2003)
  • “King Kong” (2005)
  • “AVATAR” (2009)

Hopefully with the combined talents of Steven Spielberg and Sir Peter Jackson Hollywood will have another hit on its hands.
