New Movie: SOMETHING FROM NOTHING: The Art Of Rap!
Ice T makes his directorial debut with the documentary style film: Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap. Ice-T was born in Newark, New Jersey and eventually moved to Crenshaw, Los Angeles in the 7th grade. In was in the early 1980’s when Ice developed his rap skills. Ice-T was eventually signed to Sire Records in 1987 when he released his first album RHYME PAYS. After forming the record label RHYME SYNDICATE he released his second album POWER. Ice-T would end up releasing 2 more albums: O.G. Original Gangster and Home Invasion. He now portrays an NYPD detective on NBC’s Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. He has been doing this show since the year 2000.
During this new movie Ice-T interviews various Hip-Hop artists which range from those who were there at the beginning, the icons, to even some of the biggest selling artists in the game today. While doing his interviews, he tells a story about the artform by asking key questions. As he shares the stories and techniques of the artist he brings to the surface the roots and history of Rap Music. Ice-T also shows how Rap music has grown from rather humble beginnings to world dominance from a creative and sales perspective. The New Movie: Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap features current live shows from much of the cast to show the importance of performance. Ice-T has created this film because he feels that Rap music needs to be respected as an Art Form in the same way Jazz and Rock music is honored.
Ice-T has been quoted as saying, “people think rapping is easy and anyone can do it.” I have been rapping for many years, as well as composing and I know from first hand experience that all gifts should be developed and refined in a serious manner. This movie makes me proud in that it is time that Rap music which is a part of Hip-Hop Culture should be given the type of treatment any serious from of music has been given in the past. This is due to the complete global reach, and impact it has had across the world. It has influenced and made the tone and texture of all music change and become a bit more raw. This music has flipped fashions worldwide, created a high level of entreprenuership amongst it participants, created several actors, actresses and even documentary films like: SOMETHING FROM NOTHING: The Art Of Rap.
