The past can have an intense magnetic attraction on our lives.  I have written on the power of the past in other posts, but it has such a power over our lives that touching on how to disengage from its grip can never be a useless topic.  The mental magnetic force of the past can absolutely determine how we treat people and our environment on a daily basis.  If we have had a tragic, or violent past the remnants of those thought forces still live on in our consciousness.  By looking back we make a past event come back to life long after is has died.  There are many individuals that stay mentally trapped in their past and cannot get out.

The past really can provide us with knowledge, remind us of great memories, and inform us of what we need to avoid and more.  It definitely should not haunt us or even be a stimulus that effects how we behave in a major way.  The power of not looking back will allow us to stay in the present moment which is where we can make all of the changes that will impact our future.

The past will tend to pop up in our consciousness as long as we do not create new memories for ourselves.  Our subconscious is easily programmed by a string of words (affirmations), a controlled vision, or even by deep feelings of happiness, love or success and more.  Repetition is considered to be the “mother of learning.”  The mind and its consciousness will be shaped by the contents or subject matter of its continual focus.  We are always shaping and fashioning our minds by the mental diet we are feeding it.  If you and I pour into our minds: thoughts and ideas of the highest caliber the past will absolutely start to lose a grip on controlling the reality of our present moments.  What if we could make a concerted effort to pour the most powerful ingredients into our mental cake.  A newly baked mental cake will be able to spray a new aroma into our surroundings so that individuals of that level will be drawn to us.  Like attracts like.  Making a sincere change in the present moment has the power to change our consciousness of the past.  This type of quality change will show us the power of not looking back.  It is up to us to use the present moment to overcome the past and embrace the future.
